A little bit about Monica

Monica Allan, born and raised in Los Angeles, is a graduate of the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts and has her BFA in Musical Theater from the Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford. Growing up with parents in the entertainment business has given Monica a great understanding of the exciting process of theater, film and TV and the importance of developing your craft. While in high school at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, she produced and hosted a monthly open mic night which raised hundreds of dollars for charities.

Monica is an ardent student of all things musical theater, and especially adores Golden Age musicals and participating in new works. Her love of new works began in college, when she participated in the festival of New Musicals at the Goodspeed Opera House in East Haddam, Connecticut. She had an incredible experience in that historic theater, playing Gabby in Milo at the Movies, by Tom Diggs and Mark Gaylord, and direction by DB Bonds and music direction by Jordon Cunningham.

Some of her favorite new works credits include "Gunfight at the Not-So-Ok Saloon" (Hollywood Fringe Festival), music and words by Brooke deRosa, "North Pole High" (New Musicals, Inc.), book by Dan Margules, music by Rafi Nemes, & lyrics by Kristen Rea, and “A Carol Christmas” (The Lonny Chapman Theatre), music by Bruce Kimmel, book and lyrics by Douglas Haverty. 

Something you may not expect (or maybe you do, who am I to say?) from this theater nerd is a deep love of improv comedy. Monica started doing improv in high school with her Comedsportz team, and hasn’t stopped. After that, she was a proud member of the University of Hartford’s improv troupe, “Stop Laughing, Mom!”, and has taken both improv and sketch comedy at Upright Citizen’s Brigade in LA. She has also ventured into the exciting world of musical improv at the Magnet Theater in New York.
